Connecting and Engaging Youth in Service Learning will inform the audience about the work Service Learning Exchange is doing in order to get youth from different communities and backgrounds connected as well as ways to get youth more involved within their communities. It will review the benefits of engaging youth in service learning, the various programming models, and what it takes to design an impactful service project.

Codi Tranel is the Founder and Program Director for Service Learning Exchange. She received her Master’s Degree in Social Work and a certification in Nonprofit Management from the University of Texas at Austin and has over 10 years of experience working for youth-serving organizations. Ms. Tranel is a licensed social worker in the state of Illinois and currently serves as an Impact Manager for City Year, a national service non-profit that engages AmeriCorps members in educational and community service endeavors. In her role as Impact Manager, Ms. Tranel is responsible for program oversight, managing AmeriCorps members in their term of service, ensuring program fidelity, engaging partner organizations, and data collection and evaluation. Ms. Tranel has four years of management experience and five years of experience creating, leading, and executing service learning projects through needs-based project design, volunteer recruitment and engagement, and evaluation.
