Frequently Asked Questions:

What is a virtual conference?

The conference is an online event that can be accessed anywhere from a variety of platforms including computer, mobile phones, telephones, and tablets. The conference will consist of webinars offered daily during the week of August 3-6, 2015 accessible through conference registrant only websites. Additional activities include a Youth Day Kick-Off Event, Google+ Hangouts, live streamed events, tweetchats, and an online networking community to connect conference participants during the week and for the year after the event.

What technology do I need?

You will need a computer and internet access to participate in the conference. You will also be able to access the workshops as a conference call if you are unable be in front of a computer during the event.

In addition if you have a webcam and headset you will be available to participate in Google+ Hangouts and other video conference events. You also should have social media accounts such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Google+ in order to access even more online networking opportunities.

What are the goals for the Conference?

  1. Provide an affordable professional development opportunity to youth serving professionals
  2. Begin a national conversation on strategies to create and increase positive youth development and engagement
  3. Engage youth in their own development and leadership
  4. Use technology to share best practices and to create a platform that allows strong strategies to reach new audiences with limited barriers
  5. Build a foundation for ongoing networking, learning and community wide resource sharing

How were presenters selected?

APYD National Advisory Council and Conference Committee Members served as reviewers and evaluated proposals solely on the information provided in the proposal submission. Each proposal was reviewed carefully based on the following criteria:
  • Well defined, realistic learning outcomes that can be met in the time allotted and that align with the session design
  • Clear and leading-edge content that is appropriate and applicable to the proposed audience
  • Case studies, best practices and examples for a diverse audience
  • Up-to-date, innovative and replicable strategies
  • Potential for audience engagement and learning in an online or live environment

How can I stay connected to this work after the Conference?

All workshops, plenaries, live streamed events and conference materials will be recorded and available to conference participants through 2016. We will establish discussion areas and online networking events throughout the year to allow for ideas, strategies and concepts shared during the conference to continue beyond the week of events. The Alliance for Positive Youth Development is based on input and collective effort from local partners so if you are interested in being even more involved with the work of the APYD please email youthconference@sisgigroup.org for more information.
